Highlands Ranch History
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, people flocked to Colorado as part of the Colorado Gold Rush. It was during this time that Highlands Ranch first evolved as a group of farmers and ranchers. John W. Springer, a wealthy local man, built the famous Highlands Ranch Mansion during that time period, which is known today as one of Colorado's most unique buildings. Springer's land was eventually purchased in 1978 by a development company that successfully transformed the Highlands Ranch area into a bedroom community of Denver. With the first homes built in the mid-1980s, Highlands Ranch has blossomed to a total of 86,000 residents today – large enough to be interesting, but small enough to still know your neighbors.
Neighborhoods of Highlands Ranch
As a planned community, Highlands Ranch is dotted with baseball fields, rec centers, and open green spaces. One popular Highlands Ranch enclave is the Highlands Ranch Golf Club, whose homes were built between 1999 and 2003. With homes ranging in the 2,200 to 4,500 square feet range, the golf club is a great place for a family of four or five. Even more exclusive than the Highlands Ranch Golf Club is the BackCountry development, the latest development in Highlands Ranch. A gated community with homes created by some of the best custom home builders in Colorado, BackCountry offers luxury, privacy, and all the beauty of Colorado. Timberline Ridge is one of many neighborhoods in Highlands Ranch with more modest homes, but even here well-manicured lawns and plenty of open spaces are the norm rather than the exception. In short, all of Highlands Ranch, Colorado's homes are ideally suited for a family that wants to get away from the city, but still enjoy a big city's conveniences.
